Hand Crafted In California This is a Vintage Native American Tobacco Flannel Vintage Indigo Body Front and Back This Pouch Is 11″ x 8″ Vintage Fabric 100% Cotton Lining YKK Zipper With Leather Pull These flannels first appeared in the late 1890s in the United States and Europe. Other series featuredKewpie-doll characters, Indian chief portraits, and antique rug designs; and some series were printed on silk and featured beautiful women or flowers. Never wash these flannels—they will shrink and colors printed on them will run. The use of the flannels in the U.S. began to fade out around 1915 as processing and material shortages were imposed by the priority needs of World War I. The practice continued in Europe and finally died out there in the 1930s. The National Cigar Museum explains that these flannels were made between 1910 and 1915 to be inserted into boxes for cigarettes or small cigars.
